I've read a lot of literature, I've read a lot of poetry, I listen to all different kinds of music, I've watched quite a few films, and I've visited countries around the world and experienced a lot of different culture. My favourite authors include Dickens, Sebastian Faulks, Arthur Conan Doyle, Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, John Steinbeck, Vladimir Nabokov, and Heinrich Böll. My favourite poet is Siegfried Sassoon. I also enjoy the works of Simon Armitage, Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brooke, Lewis Carroll and Edgar Allan Poe.
That's not to say that I don't appreciate stuff which you'd say appeals to the 'Great Unwashed'. I like that equally, and judge it based on how entertaining or funny they are. They're fucking shallow, and you don't have to think nearly as much as you'd have to in any of the literature written by the above, but I read them to be amused. I don't read Sassoon to be amused, I read his works when I feel like thinking critically. I'm blessed enough to have realised that there's nothing wrong with reading/listening to/watching anything designed to engage a reader, as long as it does it's job well.
Nobody has the 'remote control' on art or literature, that's what's so great about both of them. And if you insist on complaining about it, then stop whining about it and make an awesome piece of art/writing/music independently. Depending on who it appeals to, it may not make much money, but if you really cared about art that much you wouldn't give a flying fuck about the money, you'd care about the message that's being put across and the feeling that you've made something to be proud of. The biggest problem with the world is not a lack of 'art' like my sig would suggest, but the fact that people refuse to view anything in a wider picture and judge anything by it's own merits.

I've played Fallout 3 now, and it's a good game in it's own right. One of the things I judge it on is how well it fits in with the canon of the previous two games. It didn't do very well in that respect, but I'm not going to whine or complain about it any longer because I've come to realise that it's not going to change anything, and that the world faces far bigger problems than whether or not Harold would have travelled across a post-apocalyptic wasteland in a fucking piece of fiction. It doesn't really matter. >.> Do I have a 'who gives a fuck' attitude? Perhaps. It could be argued that I "don't know how to do anything but just inhale whatever's thrown" at me. I honestly couldn't care less, Kittens. It just saddens me that somebody intelligent like you would get so heated and defensive about stuff that isn't all that important.
