Refusing to believe something that humans who typically knew very little about the world around them have written (without the slightest bit of evidence or proof) =/= "having faith" in a deity's non-existence. I think for most atheists it's more of a case of simply not giving a fuck about the idea of a deity, and are sick of religious people (I'm looking at you, Evangelical Christians
) telling them what they can and can't do - as opposed to firmly believing that OMGS GHOD DON'T EXITS IT'S UNPOSEEBL.
I don't think an omnipotent being (or beings, depending on the religion) such as the Christian/Islamic/Jewish 'God' exists. If other people want to believe it, then I haven't got a problem with that. What most atheists DO have a problem with, however, is when these people start telling everyone else that they're bad or evil for not thinking in exactly the same way.
Although much like within religious groups, there are atheists who act like that, trying to lord their ideas over everybody else to the point where they become exactly like the people they profess to hate. Like evangelists and Jehovah's Witnesses over here, they are commonly referred to as 'bellends'.
